We recently created a short video that both summarizes our beliefs around frame conversion as well as highlights a real-world example. In the case study, concert footage was shot with 32 cameras. The video was captured at 25 interlaced, however the producers wanted a filmic 24p look.

In a single transcoding pass, both our two technologies – Tachyon and Dark Energy – were leveraged. Tachyon frame rate converted the project from 50i (25i) to 23.976, calculated and inserted authentic looking motion blur to simulate the 180 degree shutter of a 23.976 capture. Dark Energy removed the compression banding/blocking from the small format cameras while inserting a virtually developed film grain to provide the optimal image texture for the Blu-ray release. Seeing is believing – go check it out now!
